1.
Your insurance covers the cost of treatment abroad (in your
destination medical tourism country), and
2. At which hospitals in that country.
A number of high-quality hospitals in medical tourism destinations are now tying up with medical insurance companies in the West in a bid to increase patient numbers and visibility. But the benefits go both ways: because of the much lower cost of surgery in medical tourism destination countries, insurers are much less exposed to high financial claims. For example, the US-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield and UK-based Bupa now insure clients treated at a number of private hospitals abroad.
It is also a very wise idea to check with your insurance company if it covers any expenses incurred on post-operative care or surgery after you have returned to your home country.
A thorough investigation of these issues with your
insurance company will give you peace of mind before you
embark on your medical treatment abroad.
