Dental tourism by the way is one of the hottest areas in the whole medical tourism market. The Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland offer special cheap dental tours to other Europeans. India, Thailand, South Africa and some others also offer the joys of being a ‘dental tourist’.

Dental surgery is often very attractive, since it is not covered by many insurance policies abroad and cost savings abroad are huge. The most common form of dental surgery that is opted for by medical tourists is Prosthodontic surgery which includes procedures such as dental crowns, bridges, implants and dentures. Tooth whitening treatments are also commonly opted for by tourists seeking cosmetic dental surgery.

Eastern European countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland attract most of their overseas dental tourists from neighbouring west European countries, whereas countries such as India and Thailand have a more varied clientele. The cost savings, in any case, are substantial. In the words of one dental tourist in Budapest, Hungary, “I've been all over and the total cost - including the airfare- will be far less than what dental would cost me at home… I would recommend this in a second.” ¹
